Designation

Officers typically begin their careers as  Revenue Officers  or  Assistant Revenue Officers .

Responsibilities

  • Land Revenue Management : Overseeing the assessment, collection, and administration of land revenue in various districts.
  • Land Records Maintenance : Managing and updating land records, including settlement operations and land surveys.
  • Implementation of Land Reforms : Enforcing government policies related to land distribution, tenancy rights, and agricultural reforms.

Pay Structure

  • Starting Salary : The starting salary for an ORS officer is in  Pay Level 10  under the 7th Pay Commission, with a basic pay of approximately  ₹44,900  per month, exclusive of allowances.
  • Allowances : Officers receive additional allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Travel Allowance (TA), which vary based on their posting.

    • Manages revenue collection and land administration within a tehsil (an administrative division).
    • Responsible for overseeing the work of Revenue Officers and coordinating with other departments.
  • Additional Tehsildar:
    • Assists the Tehsildar in various administrative and revenue related tasks.
    • Takes on specific projects or responsibilities as delegated by the Tehsildar, such as managing public grievances or specific schemes.
  • Sub Collector / Deputy Collector:
    • Responsible for managing multiple tehsils and overseeing overall revenue administration in a designated area.
    • Plays a key role in policy implementation and coordination among different administrative units.
  • Joint Collector:
    • Acts as an intermediary between the Collector and lower ranking officers, supporting overall district administration.
    • May handle specific portfolios, including land administration and revenue collection.
  • Collector:
    • The highest ranking officer in the district, responsible for all aspects of revenue administration, law enforcement, and district governance.
    • Oversees the work of Tehsildars, Sub Collectors, and other administrative officers.
